With a craftsman for a dad and an English teacher for a mom, it was no surprise when I built my own booth at my elementary school's book fair and sold personalized poems to fairgoers for 25 cents apiece. My piggy bank may not have been full at the end of the day, but my heart was overflowing with happiness. I simply loved writing for others to enjoy!
My creative spirit has always been my compass, eventually guiding me to San Diego State University where I received my bachelor's degree in Art, with a minor in Psychology. Today, I continue to learn in my role as the Vice President of Design and Operations for an interior design firm in Southern California. Designing a space is a similar mindset for me as writing a story - to create an intimate connection, a sense of wonder, and a memorable experience from every angle.
Achieving this "wow" factor has never been as important to me as it is now, being the mom to two bright-eyed little ones who have the whole world at their fingertips. Words have more meaning, stories have more magnitude, and life has more magic than ever before! The idea of fostering special moments for a child has become my newfound passion and, perhaps, a new chapter in my professional journey.
I am an enthusiastic member of SCBWI, participate in two long-standing critique groups, and enjoy entering writing contests hosted by the wonderful kidlit community whenever I get the chance. I have received Honorable Mentions in the Halloweensie Writing Contest and the Spring Fling Kidlit Contest, which inspired some of my favorite stories that I have written. I also have other manuscripts (both poetry and prose) available upon request.
When I'm not reading or writing, you will find me exploring the world with my big and little besties (a.k.a. my hubby and kiddos). From the tippy tops of mountains to the deepest depths of seas, we will try any adventure at least once. Besides, it always makes for a great story when it's all said and done!
